Google Pay, Phone Pay and Paytm users may face more difficulties as the UPI ID of many users may be blocked from December 31. In this regard, the National Payments Corporation of India i.e. NPCI has issued a circular to Google Pay, Paytm and Phone Pay, in which NPCI has ordered third party apps like Google Pay, Phone Pay and Paytm to block those UPI IDs from 31 December 2023. has been given, which has not been activated for one year. That means if you have not done any transaction with your UPI ID for a year then it will be closed after 31 December 2023

What is NPCI?

It is a non profit organization, India’s retail payment and settlement system. That means apps like PhonePay, Google Pay and Paytm work on these directions. Also, in case of any kind of dispute, NPCI does its mediation.

what is the rule

According to the NPCI circular, the reason for closing the UPI ID which is not used for 1 year is user security. Many a times users create a new ID without linking their old number, which can lead to fraud. Meanwhile, NPCI has ordered to close the old ID.

Supreme Court order 

There is a possibility that your old number may be issued to a new user. As the Supreme Court said in its order, there is a possibility of fraud in that situation. For all these reasons it has been decided to discontinue the old ID. The Supreme Court in its recent decision has said that the telecom provider companies can close the deactivated number within 90 days. Also that number can be transferred to someone else.
